Unless you've been hiding under a rock, and honestly if you're under a rock you still may have heard it, Taylor Swift released her latest music video to her song Wildest Dreams. I LOVE it - I LOVE it so much that I may or may not have had the video playing on repeat as I cooked dinner last night. I feel no shame whatsoever either.
This video is gorgeous - the warm tones and soft lines and vintage feel are gorgeous. The video scream glamour old school HollyWood and it's clear that Taylor Swift would have fit in beautifully back then. What really appeals to me about this video is that it is Sexy, like super sexy, but no one is half naked. I'm not watching hardcore bumping and grinding, and no one is flashing me. It's sexy in a sultry glamorous way that you just don't see anymore. I can only hope that as I venture into shooting Boudoir sessions that mine are even half as classy as this video.
The other part that resonated with me is that this is such an adult way to enter a relationship. Not only is she hoping that they remember her in a way that is timeless and happy but she's not pegging every last hope and dream on this man. It takes me back to when I first dated my Fiance EC.
Most people don't know this but we dated some before going our separate ways and then finding each other again 2 years later and subsequently becoming engaged. The first time around I went into it thinking "this is the man - he's the one." Pegging all these hopes that we were going to fall in love and live happily ever after. It fell apart 2 months in from a lack of time, not being ready to commit, and a lot of pressure in my mind to be perfect and make this work because he's "the one."
Flash forward 2 years (almost to the day) later and we reconnected. We both went into this thinking "hmm maybe this will be fun." We already knew we would be friends even if it didn't work and somehow 2 years later he asked me to marry him and I said yes. Now another year later and I couldn't imagine being in a more stable - HEALTHY relationship. We're getting married in the future and all of those dreams I had about him the first time are a reality now. But I do truly think that because I entered into the relationship with no expectations except that I hoped we remained friends better things came through it.
