My sweet grey cat is missing and it's creeping closer to a week gone now. My heart and our house are so sad, Toby has been with my since the summer after my freshman year of college. He's seen me through bad boyfriends, great boyfriends, 8 moves (seriously we moved 8 times), cohabited with 5 different dogs, and killed many a venomous snake. He converted many a "no cat" person and enthralled everyone with his acrobatic skills.
Toby was never an angel cat, an assumed Russian Blue that I found in a box that had been taped shut when he was around 6 months old. Beautiful blue-green eyes and an extremely curious nature. Toby did not fear anything and he loved the canines in his life. He was also responsible for killing multiple venomous snakes and keeping the bird population in check. Toby was bitten by a rattlesnake 2/3/4 times? We eventually lost count.
My goodness will I miss this cat - he was a lover without a mean bone in his body. A superb feline athlete, and a constant reassurance as I navigate EC and I's long distance relationship. I'm still not sure what happened to him, he took it upon himself to go out Saturday night. He can open doors if they aren't locked, and I haven't seen him since. He was followed around lately by a large fluffy and very vocal stray cat. The stray is still here hanging out with us, Toby is a no-show.
I'm hopeful a neighbor has him and just hasn't seen our flyers yet, if they do I hope they let him go home soon. If something nefarious happened I can only hope Toby felt no pain and I know he knew how much we loved him. I'm going to miss my half naked ball of fur (his coat was only half in due to too much snake venom in his life).
I'm sure in Toby's memory we'll adopt an older cat from a shelter and essentially pay it forward for another sweet animal. But my goodness I will miss him, and no other cat will ever compare.
